Travel group trip to Gibside

On 19th July, a group from our u3a set out for a trip to Gibside. Jayne was our driver and did a sterling job. We arrived and began to explore the flora of the walled garden. A lovely stroll to the ruins of the Orangery, and what a view.
Then the heavens opened, rain, hailstone and thunder, a group of drowned rats headed for the cafe. We had a lovely lunch and let the storm passed.
After lunch, we headed for the chapel and then a pleasant stroll down the Avenue, passed the ruined hall, taking in Column to Liberty and heading to the stables.
More refreshments and then a very interesting talk by a Gibside volunteer.
A great day and despite the weather a good time was had by all.
